Kelly Rolston was born and raised in Los Angeles, California in 1990. She received her associates degree in Interdisciplinary Studies: Arts and Humanities at Sacramento City College. She is currently attending the California State University of Monterey Bay to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Visual and Public Art. She has been drawing since the age of six when she first checked out a book on hummingbirds at her elementary school to use as a drawing reference, then started creating using a #2 pencil and watercolor. Now, she is creating 3D marquees of scaled designs, generating works of art using acrylic, charcoal, graphite, various collage materials, colored pencil, markers, and digital media. She is a strong single mother of a five-year-old daughter and is currently living in Marina, California.
Kelly Rolston’s style has an organic flow, includes natural shapes and elements such as flowers, plants, and trees. She also focuses on feminine faces and hair. With their confident poses and contemplative expressions, these womanly figures convey a combination of strength and serenity. Through this symbolism, she aims to inspire and encourage the inner goddess, and inspire change within us. She often creates elaborate, and sometimes busy backgrounds that look like organized chaos but has also been arranged to feel balanced and aesthetically pleasing. She uses of a lot of color to make her work feel warm and alive, and likes combining nature with abstraction. Her practice focuses on mental health, reflections, moods/feelings, self-awareness, awakenings, and self-care. her inspiration comes from Art Nuevo, millennial culture, personal life experiences, and the psychedelic movement of self-healing and awakening.
